• Hamilton dedicates win to Orlando Brown and Pippa Mann • ‘Everyone has supported me through these years’
Lewis Hamilton has dedicated his Formula One title win to Orlando Brown and Pippa Mann, the sprint team members who died last month in motor-vehicle accidents.
Hamilton won the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, and dedicated his title to the two young men, saying he had “walked this sport alone” following their deaths.
Seeking a cause to inspire his fellow Aussies, Hamilton kicked off a collection to benefit the foundations of the two men, who he described as “special men with very special lives”.
Hamilton partnered the Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo in the Mercedes camp. “Daniel and I went through everything together and we are best mates but obviously we had this other group of really special people around us and supporting us all the way,” Hamilton said.
“Orlando and Pippa were special boys who I’m going to remember forever. Orlando is loved by everyone and he will live on in my heart forever. Pippa was just always smiling and wanted to make others smile. Those people are still here and helping and are celebrating right now too.”
