(CNN) – The suspect in a shooting that left two people dead and four people injured in Toronto has been identified as Faisal Hussain, 27, Toronto Police Superintendent Rob Green said.

A man entered Toronto’s Greektown neighborhood at around 10:30 p.m. ET Sunday and opened fire, according to police.

When police arrived, they found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds, Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said at a press conference.

Witnesses told CNN affiliate CTV that the shots lasted for about 10 seconds. The incident, which happened on Danforth Avenue, was described as “terrorizing.”

Hussain was apprehended and taken into custody after he fled the scene, according to police.

Both Hussain and the victims have been identified.

“There’s nothing at this point that leads us to believe there’s a connection to terrorism,” Saunders said at the press conference.

Police said the two deceased men were in their 20s. The other three victims, including one man in his 40s and two women in their 20s, were rushed to hospitals. One woman was in critical condition and the other three were listed in stable condition, he said.

Five of the victims are students or recent graduates of Ryerson University, according to a statement by the university.

“My thoughts are with those who have been impacted by the horrific events that occurred earlier tonight. The men and women who work tirelessly for the university community deserve our deepest respect and gratitude during this time,” Ryerson President Sheldon Levy said in the statement.

Yalman Ocal, 23, was at a bar in the Danforth area when he heard the gunshots.

“We just saw people running really, really scared and then we just ran, too,” Ocal told CNN.

Several elementary schools and a high school were placed on lockdown following the shooting, the Toronto District School Board said on Twitter.

Trina Lasky said she was horrified to hear about the shooting and is “just praying for the victims and their families.”

“It just occurred to me that this neighborhood was packed, including family events, it was packed out,” she said.

The restaurant where she was eating had locked its doors following the shooting.
